Accident on Northgate Boulevard Injures Teen Bicyclist

A teenage bicycle rider was injured on March 25 in Sacramento in an accident that involved a school bus. The injured teen is at a hospital recovering from the accident, which occurred along Northgate Boulevard near Wisconsin Avenue around 7:50 a.m. The teen remained conscious and reportedly suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Students on School Bus Are Uninjured in Collision With Bicycle Rider

Although there were students on board the Sacramento A Twin Rivers School District bus at the time of the bicycle accident, no one was injured. The students’ families were contacted afterward. Because these situations could cause worry and anxiety, Twin Rivers Unified notified parents that counselors would be on duty to talk to the children.

After-School Supervision Ramped Up Following Accident

Afternoon dismissal supervision was being increased to ensure that the student’s well-being and safety as they left school were being monitored. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor into the collision. The accident is currently under investigation to determine the cause.

Accidents Involving a Bicycle Rider

Bicycle riders are expected to abide by the same rules as all motorists. Nevertheless, their vulnerability and low visibility make them more likely to be struck by negligent motorists. Bicyclists are often hospitalized due to serious trauma and require a lengthy recovery period, which is why filing a claim for compensation may be beneficial. Driver negligence causes these accidents for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • Crosswalks: Turning at a crosswalk without looking for pedestrians or bicyclists can cause an accident. Even though the driver may have a green light on their side, they still have the duty to avoid hitting a rider.
  • Running a red light: The negligence of a driver who runs a red light or stop sign is one of the leading causes of bicycle injury accidents. At intersections, a bicycle rider who is passing can easily be struck by a driver who runs a red light or stop sign.
  • Right-hand turns: The motorist may enter the bicycle lane when he plans to make a right-hand turn. When they fail to check first to make sure the bike lane is empty, they can injure a cyclist.
  • Distracted driving: Among the leading causes of traffic collisions, including those involving bicycle riders, is distracted driving. Any distraction that takes a motorist’s attention away from driving, including texting or talking on their phone, will cause a serious injury to a bicyclist.
  • Drunk drivers: Intoxicated drivers have trouble judging distances, are unable to track with their eyes and demonstrate slowed reflexes. Bicyclists may be injured by such drivers.
  • Speeding: In an emergency, a driver who is speeding would need a longer distance to stop, and it is more likely that they would lose control of their vehicle. Additionally, bicyclists or pedestrians struck by speeders are more likely to suffer catastrophic injuries and die in the event of an accident.
