Suffering a Major Injury in an Accident
A major injury is anything that could cause serious harm to an individual, resulting in a permanent injury, affect their quality of life, or lead to death. Examples of major injuries include:
- Compound fractures, dislocations, and crush injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries, including concussions that do not resolve within 20 days
- Amputations
- Head and eye injuries
- Injuries accompanied by unconsciousness, confusion, serious bleeding, chest pain, or paralysis
Why You Need an Injury Lawyer
Because a serious injury can require a long hospitalization period and recuperation with resulting in high medical costs and time away from work, it can affect a family’s finances. An experienced injury attorney can help by building a case and gathering all the documents needed to support your claim. In this way, you can concentrate on recovering from your injury with peace of mind knowing you will not suffer any financial damage. In addition, it provides you with justice by knowing that the negligent party is being held responsible.
Motorists Don’t Look Out for Bicycle Riders
Motorists are accustomed to looking out for other drivers when they are out on the road. They don’t always look for those who are on foot, bicyclists, scooter riders, or motorcyclists. This big mistake can often lead to an accident, especially when negligence is involved.
If they are negligent, they are responsible financially for a major injury, which can cost the bicyclist high medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. However, even though a driver may initially say an accident was their fault, they may try to wiggle out of it later when they understand they can be financially liable for your injuries.
This is why you need a lawyer by your side to obtain the compensation you deserve. You are welcome to call me to review your accident without charge. I can tell you whether you have a case and answer any questions you might have.
Reasons for a Major Injury Bicycle Accident
There are a number of ways in which a motorist can cause an accident with a bicycle rider that results in a severe injury. They include:
- Crossing over into the bike lane and not maintaining a three-foot distance from the rider is a common cause of collisions.
- Running a stop sign or red light and colliding with a bicyclist who has the right of way happens often.
- Drunk or drugged driving limits the motorist’s judgment, affect vision and slows reflexes, which can lead to a major injury bicycle accident.
- Distracted driving is a common cause of all types of accidents. A motorist who is texting or chatting on the phone, checking their GPS and other distractions can easily cause a bicycle accident resulting in a serious injury.
