Bicyclist Hit and Killed by Vehicle in Pittsburg – Authorities are investigating a car-vs-bicycle accident that claimed the bicyclist’s life in Pittsburg on Friday, October 26, 2018. The male cyclist suffered from head trauma as a result of the collision. He was transported to a medical center in Walnut Creek, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car involved stayed at the scene and answer questions related to the investigation. Neither the age or name of the cyclist has been disclosed to the public.

Bicycle Accident Injury Details
According to emergency response teams, the driver was traveling northbound down Kirker Pass Road towards an upcoming green light at the intersection of Castlewood Drive. Around the same time, a bicyclist coming from Castlewood Drive attempted to go westbound into the crosswalk at Kirker Pass Road. Police stated that the bicycle was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident, but the vehicle had a green light. The driver attempted to avoid crashing into the bicyclist but was ultimately unable to do so.
It was roughly 11:26 p.m. that evening when officers responded to a call regarding the incident at the intersection of Castlewood Drive and Kirker Pass Road. When response crews arrived at the scene, they discovered the cyclist laying on the ground in the southbound lanes of Kirker Pass. The injured male had sustained head injuries from the collision.
Shortly afterward, the man was transferred to the John Muir Center in Walnut Creek where he later died. Police said that there was nothing to suggest that the driver was impaired or distracted at the time of the crash.
Ongoing Investigation
Investigators stated that the affected roadways were temporarily shut down until right before 11:15 a.m. the following Saturday afternoon. They also indicated their plan to review any videos that may have recorded the crash. City surveillance camera systems and recorders from surrounding businesses will potentially be subject to review by the Pittsburg Police Department.
