A Rancho Cordova accident claimed the life of a Mather bicyclist on New Year’s Day. According to officials from the Rancho Cordova Police Department, the accident occurred on Zinfandel Drive southbound near International Drive around 7:00 p.m. A motorist who was driving south along Zinfandel struck the bicycle rider as they were trying to cross the road.

The name of the decedent was released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 46-year-old Mather resident John Anthony Matias.
