Bicyclist Killed in South Lake Tahoe Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe Bicycle Accident Lawyer. While bicycles double as both a great mode of transportation and exercise, accidents involving bikes have the potential to turn deadly. Such was the case in a bicycle crash that occurred recently in the South Lake Tahoe area.

South Lake Tahoe Car Accident Involving Cyclist

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, a bicyclist was traveling near the intersection of Takela and Lake Tahoe boulevards when it collided with a motor vehicle. Immediately after the bicycle accident, emergency personnel and police officers responded to the scene. The cyclist was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment of the injuries, likely including polytrauma; however, tragically, the cyclist later passed away. The driver of the vehicle was not reported to have suffered any injuries. While the accident is still being investigated, the police did not indicate that they suspect the driver of drunk driving. The name of the cyclist has been withheld by the authorities until the police can notify the cyclist’s family.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist who passed away.

Summer is Approaching Quickly

With the warmer weather approaching, it is likely that more people will decide to ride their bicycles to complete errands, get exercise, and commute to work. Drivers and cyclists everywhere should remember that sharing the road is a necessity to avoid similar bicycle accidents and to protect against claims of wrongful death. Drivers of motor vehicles should keep in mind that cyclists do not have a metal frame protecting them from the hot, hard pavement below. Furthermore, because of the size difference between bicycles and cars, a cyclist is likely to suffer a catastrophic personal injury if involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. The police department in South Lake Tahoe encourages everyone to pay attention to their surroundings when using the roads. Please, share our roadways with biyclists.

Avoiding South Lake Tahoe Car Accidents

It is always easier to avoid a bicycle or car accident than to fix one that has already occurred. Anyone who is riding a bicycle should remember to wear a helmet. This could prevent a traumatic brain injury from occurring if an accident takes place. Bicycle riders should also do their best to stay to the side of the road, allowing room for cars to pass. Drivers of motor vehicles should remember to keep their eyes open for bicycle riders and give bicycles plenty of room when passing by them. These basic tips can prevent a tragic accident from developing.
