Big Rig Accident In Vallejo
I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo truck accident lawyer. An officer from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a driver lost control of their vehicle and collided with a big-rig trailer truck in Vallejo on Thursday, March 16, 2017. Unfortunately, the driver suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
What Happened?
An officer for CHP, James Evans, told reporters that CHP first received a report detailing the incident at about 8:34 a.m. The reports they received described a collision along Interstate 80 in the vicinity of the Tennessee Street overpass.
The driver, a woman from Vallejo, had apparently lost control of her vehicle while entering the eastbound side of the highway from the Tennessee Street junction. As a result of losing control of her vehicle, she drove in front of a 40-foot-long big-rig with an empty trailer which collided with her much smaller car.
The collision also involved a third vehicle that struck both the errant car and the tractor trailer.
Was Anyone Injured?
The driver of the small car that lost control while entering the freeway was the only person involved in the accident who received any injuries. CHP officer, Andrew Nelson, noted that when emergency responders arrived at the scene of the collision, they found the victim trapped inside the wreckage of her car. The woman had to be extricated from the wrecked vehicle and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. Medical officials have not yet reported exactly what type of injuries that the driver sustained, although there are no indications that any of her injuries were life-threatening.
Big Rig Accident Causes Traffic Mayhem
The collision caused major traffic congestion. All eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 had to be shut down while crews worked to remove the wrecked vehicle and debris from the site of the incident. The highway was not fully reopened until about 10:30 a.m., meaning that eastbound traffic on Vallejo’s largest highway was blocked for almost two hours.
Truck Accidents
If you have been in an accident with a big-rig truck, it is important to seek legal help as soon as possible. Trucking companies usually have legal teams ready to go in order to mitigate liability in any accidents that their drivers are involved in. Large trucking companies are generally well-prepared for these sorts of incidents and by you having legal representation in the early stages of investigation can prevent trucking companies from covering up valuable evidence. Additionally, if you are involved in an accident with a truck and an ambulance is offered, going to the hospital is a good idea. Many times, victims of trucking accidents will not notice trauma that the accident has caused their body until it is too late. Having medical professionals screen for injuries right after your accident is crucial for protecting your health.
