Trucking Accidents Related to Jackknifing
Accidents involving large trucks jackknifing can be caused by a number of different factors. Jackknifing typically happens when a truck driver suddenly applies the brakes, specifically when traveling at a high rate of speed. The whole truck and its trailer can skid when sudden braking occurs, which can lead to jackknifing. The complex braking system in a large commercial truck is very different than the brakes of a passenger vehicle. There are three different braking components of a truck. When braking is suddenly applied to avoid crashing into another vehicle, the truck can become difficult to maneuver, some wheels can lock and others do not, all of which can lead to jackknifing. Jackknifing can also be caused by mechanical or equipment failure, driving around a curve too quickly and inclement weather conditions. It is best to consult with an experienced trucking accident lawyer if seriously injured in an accident involving a large commercial truck.
