Blind Spots and Auto Accidents

Blind Spots and Auto Accidents

I’m Ed Smith, a Car Accident Attorney in Sacramento. Over the past few years, technology with cars has changed. There are new advances that drivers can obtain on their vehicles. Supposedly, these make the cars “smarter” and give the driver more information than they previously had. On the other hand, accidents still occur at an alarming rate. Why do blind spots and auto accidents continue to be a problem?

Examples of Technological Changes

Those who have purchased a car recently understand the litany of new technology they can opt for. It wasn’t long ago that seat belts were being added to cars for the first time. Now, side curtain airbags, heated seats, and new alert systems seem to be common. Some of the new safety technology that people can ask for includes:

Cross-Traffic Alert: These are sensors on the vehicle that alert the driver if someone is passing behind the vehicle. This can avoid a collision with the car’s rear.

Backup Cameras: These cameras seem to be in almost every vehicle today. These allow the driver to see what is behind the car while in reverse without having to turn around.

Lane-Departure Warning: Everyone has felt the fear of their car drifting on the interstate. This system alerts the driver if the car is moving out of its lane. This allows the course to be corrected before an accident happens.

Why do Accidents Continue to Happen?

Despite these technological advances, accidents and serious injuries still occur. Recently, a review article was published discussing some of the possible reasons. Some people have become too reliant on these safety devices. While they are impressive, they should not replace the human eye. People should still remain alert because the car cannot avoid an accident without the driver making a correction. Furthermore, this information could be contributing to a sensory overload. It is possible that these devices provide too much information to process at once. Without the ability to process this information, the driver may not be able to react in time.

Help with a Difficult Accident

If a serious auto accident happens, it is normal for someone to feel stressed. They might look at their car and wonder what to do next. It is possible that they could end up in the hospital. Their injuries could take time to heal. How is a family going to make ends meet with a loved one in the hospital? In a difficult situation, it can be helpful to meet with an experienced car accident attorney in Sacramento. There are options for both property damage and medical injury that should be discussed. Together, the team can act in the best interest of the injured party.
