High Speed Chase Involving the CHP
Authorities from the California Highway Patrol were on a hot pursuit for a fleeing vehicle exceeding normal speeds.
What Happened?
The high-speed chase took place on Monday, August 22, 2016. A California Highway Patrol Officer observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit along Highway 99 near the split for Highway 149. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over. However, the driver was an unidentified male who did not yield.
CHP High-Speed Chase Conclusion
The hot pursuit continued from Highway 99 to Highway 149 eastbound. The chase carried onto Shippee Road then returned onto Highway 99. The driver eventually took Highway 162 to enter Oroville and a parking lot at the local Walmart. The suspect’s vehicle and the officer’s vehicle were damaged as a result of a pit maneuver technique. The CHP officer used the technique in order to stop the suspect from pulling out of the Walmart parking lot and onto Oro Dam Boulevard. The motorist was detained for failing to yield and for possessing a stolen vehicle.
