Vehicle Goes Into Ravine in Butte County Fatal Crash

In a tragic incident involving a Butte County fatal crash, one man lost his life while another sustained severe injuries on October 17 along Centerville Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively investigating the incident, which occurred around 5:40 p.m. after a vehicle veered off the roadway and plummeted into a ravine in the Butte Creek Canyon area.

Vehicle Found Down Embankment in Butte County Fatal Crash

Upon responding to a call from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, CHP units discovered a red Toyota 4Runner several hundred feet down an embankment. According to the Cal Fire Butte unit, the vehicle was approximately 300 to 400 feet from the edge of the road. Emergency personnel, utilizing a rope lowering system and a wheeled stokes basket, were able to rescue two men, both in their 50s, who were involved in the accident.

One Man Dead and Another Seriously Injured in Off-Road Accident

Authorities pronounced one of the men deceased at the scene of the Butte County fatal crash, while his counterpart was swiftly transported to Enloe Medical Center with critical injuries. Efforts are underway to notify the deceased’s next of kin.

Investigation Being Conducted Into Cause of Fatal Accident

The CHP clarified that the vehicle involved in the Butte County fatal crash was not registered to either of the men and highlighted that the portion of Centerville Road where the crash occurred is unpaved, consisting of gravel and dirt. The cause of this fatal accident remains under investigation by the CHP traffic collision unit.
