Two Antioch Teens Killed in Car Accident
Recently, a single-vehicle accident that took place in Walnut Creek left three parties hospitalized with serious injuries and claimed the lives of two Antioch teenagers. An 18-year-old Antioch woman was driving her silver 2000 Honda Civic with four passengers eastbound along Highway 24 in the vicinity of Interstate 680 during the early morning hours. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Honda veered off the highway and plunged approximately 40 to 50 feet down. Sadly, the car accident caused two passengers to succumb to their injuries at the scene.
I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the friends and families of the two teenagers who passed away in this devastating accident.
Accident Details
The five occupants of the Honda were all close friends and recent graduates from Deer Valley High School in Antioch. They had all agreed to drive up to San Francisco as a commemoration of their final weekend together since they were heading out to different colleges soon. The group of friends had made their way over to City Nights, a nightclub for people aged 18 years or older.
Later that night is when tragedy struck. Preliminary reports by CHP suggested that the single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. when the Honda drifted off the overpass and struck the asphalt surface of Boulevard Circle. Investigators suspect that drunk driving may have been a contributing factor to the accident.
Nature of Injuries
The Honda driver and two female passengers, one from Antioch and another from Oakley, were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of major injuries. Unfortunately, the two male occupants of the Honda, identified as 17-year-old and 18-year-old Antioch residents, were both pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

One Arrest Made
An official statement by CHP indicated that the Honda driver was arrested for multiple charges of felony DUI and felony manslaughter for causing the deaths of the two passengers in the Honda. However, it is unknown whether the Honda driver was confirmed to be driving under the influence of alcohol due to pending toxicology reports.
Remembering Loved Ones
While the details of the accident are still being investigated, the families and friends of those that were killed in this crash are grieving immensely. Many people attended a recent vigil dedicated to the two teenagers which were held in Walnut Creek at the site of the accident. Families, friends, and Deer Valley High School staff members all gathered together to light candles, offer flowers, and share uplifting stories of the two teenagers.
