Several Injured in Car Accident Near Pittsburg
A Bay Point car accident highlights the hazards of one of the big three dangerous roads used by Pittsburg commuters. On 3 July, a tan-colored SUV traveling on Willow Pass Road collided with a dark-colored Dodge Neon on Evora Road.
About the Injuries
Authorities have not released specific information about the victims’ injuries. Preliminary accident details reported that people in both vehicles suffered minor to moderate injuries. Several people reported unspecified pain after the accident and were transported to a hospital.
Victims we represented in similar accidents suffered back injuries and bruising to the chest. Many also suffer from cervical sprains. This injury is commonly referred to as “whiplash” and can be serious.
Damage to the Vehicles
Both vehicles suffered damage in the accident and tow trucks had to remove them from the scene. The Dodge Neon sustained damage to one of its side panels while the tan SUV suffered front-end damage.
Cause of the Accident
The cause of the accident is still unknown. At this time, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating. The CHP does not have the resources to conduct an in-depth investigation as this accident only caused minor injuries. Therefore, insurance companies will likely determine the cause.
Potential Causes of the Accident
Our knowledge as Pittsburg car accident lawyers indicates the cause, however. A combination of distracted drivers, excessive speed, and the nature of the intersection likely caused the accident.
At least one driver is typically distracted in similar accidents. This distraction can be food, a cell phone, passengers, or any other object that pulls a driver’s focus from the road. This then causes the driver to break basic driving rules. This can then result in a car accident with injuries to the driver and/or occupants inside the vehicle.
Excessive speed can also contribute to Pittsburg car accidents. Drivers traveling too fast may be unable to avoid a dangerous, accident-causing situation. This seems to occur along Willow Pass Road frequently.
At this time, there is no evidence that either driver was distracted or speeding. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. It usually takes a week or longer for the investigating agency to release a report of their findings.
The Intersection of Evora Road and Willow Pass Road
The most likely contributing factor is the location of the accident. The intersection of Evora Road and Willow Pass Road is chaotic. Both roads are frequently used by commuters attempting to avoid heavy traffic on nearby Highway 4. This puts many drivers through an intersection where stop signs are the only form of traffic control.
Drivers from all four directions also have little warning of the upcoming intersection. No signs warn drivers of the nearby stop and visibility is poor. People traveling eastbound on Evora turn around a gas station while people traveling westbound on Evora are coming off of a steep hill and a sharp turn.
Meanwhile, drivers traveling southbound on Willow Pass Road also travel down a steep hill. Northbound drivers travel up a hill and under a highway overpass.
Drivers in each direction on both roads clearly face dangerous conditions. Issues in any one of these directions can easily lead to an accident in this intersection.
About Willow Pass Road
Willow Pass Road in general is a dangerous road. Local commuters frequently use the road to avoid heavy traffic on local highways. However, the road is not designed for a large volume of traffic. This creates many hazards for local commuters.
