Car Causes Pedestrian Major Injury in Calvine Road On-Ramp Accident

A pedestrian major injury collision occurred in Elk Grove on August 12 after being struck by a car. The accident happened on the eastbound Calvine Road on-ramp to northbound State Route 99 shortly after 8:00 a.m. The pedestrian was struck by a Mercedes E 350 sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) accident report.

Authorities Determining Cause of Pedestrian Major Injury Accident

Medics were called to the scene and determined that major injuries had occurred, and the pedestrian was taken to a hospital for care. No information was provided about the vehicle that struck the walker, but the driver apparently remained at the scene. A determination of the cause of the collision is underway by CHP traffic accident investigators.

Factors Contributing to Pedestrian Accidents

It is possible for a pedestrian and a motor vehicle to be involved in an accident for many reasons. A driver’s negligence is the most common cause. Accidents commonly occur due to:

  • Distracted driving occurs when a motorist is texting or looking away from the traffic ahead for other reasons. Just a few seconds of distraction can cause a pedestrian major injury accident.
  • Failure to yield the right of way is a common occurrence.
  • Speeding often leads to a pedestrian major injury accident since the motorist is unable to stop in time to avoid striking them.
  • Impaired driving is a leading cause of all types of accidents, including those that involve pedestrians.

Pedestrians Injured by Negligent Drivers Are Entitled to Compensation

A negligent driver often causes a pedestrian major injury accident when someone on foot is struck. Being hit by a moving vehicle often leads to serious injuries and hospitalization as well as the inability to work and the pain and suffering that accompany a crash. Those who are injured by another’s negligent actions can often recover the following compensation

  • Medical expenses caused by your pedestrian major injury accident are recoverable. These costs include everything from the ambulance fee to hospitalization and associated expenses as well as rehabilitation.
  • Lost wages are those that occur because the injured person is unable to work and loses earnings due to the trauma. In addition, some people have to take sick leave or vacation time that isn’t reimbursed. Those are recoverable. If the injured person has to take a job that pays less due to the injury or is permanently disabled, the difference is calculated into your settlement.
  • Pain and suffering refers to both the physical and emotional trauma the pedestrian major injury accident caused, and compensation is recoverable for that. A surprising number of people develop post-traumatic stress disorder after an accident and have to seek professional treatment. The cost of treatment is also recoverable.
