Two Injured After Car Drives Over Cliff in Napa
Two teenagers suffered injuries after their vehicle went over a cliff in Napa on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Information from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the incident happened at night on a rural highway and involved a single car. According to medical officials, both of the occupants were hospitalized after the crash. Additionally, CHP is at work investigating this traumatic car accident.
Crash Information
CHP traffic reports state that the incident occurred on Highway 128 close to Wragg Canyon Road at around 11:00 p.m. Police stated that an 18-year-old from Vallejo was driving a vehicle of unreported make and model when, for unknown reasons, the car drove off-road and plummeted down an 80-foot embankment, overturning as it descended.
CHP rushed responders to the scene and, when they arrived, officials found that the passenger was trapped inside of the crashed car. Firefighters conducted an emergency extrication and removed the passenger from the vehicle before determining that they had sustained severe injuries. Officers called for a helicopter ambulance to fly the passenger to the Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville for emergency care. Updates on the passenger’s condition have not been reported so far.
The passenger, an 18-year-old Napa resident, was driven to a Napa hospital for treatment of reportedly minor injuries.
Investigation
While police move forward with their investigation into this collision, reports regarding suspected factors have not been issued. Frequently, single-vehicle collisions involve multiple causes and may have been caused by non-driver factors, including dangerously damaged highway pavement, defective steering systems, brakes, or other car parts, and more. When non-driver factors play a role in causing a crash, parties like auto manufactures, sellers, and retailers may share financial liability for the crash.
Rollovers are Very Dangerous
Collisions that involve rollovers are much more likely to involve major injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is largely because many vehicles have weak roofs that are liable to crumple if put under any major force. Vehicle product manufacturers are required to ensure that their products are reasonably safe, and if the roof crushes inward during a rollover, these companies are often considered partially or fully responsible for damages, meaning that crash survivors can claim compensation from the company.
In order to hold these companies responsible, your attorney needs to be able to prove that the vehicle roof was unsound. For this reason, you should make sure to preserve your wrecked vehicle as evidence after any serious rollover accident.
