Dashcam Captures Epic Crash
A dramatic car crash was recorded by dashcam and business cameras late last week. The incident occurred in Yuba City, California and the videos show a car sailing through the air, then slamming into the ground below. The soundtrack to the dashcam video is screaming from the family members in the truck that recorded the event.
The airborne vehicle had catapulted off of Highway 99 after banking off of the highway.
An employee with Mechanical and Irrigation Solutions on East Onstott Road was shocked to see the footage on the company’s surveillance cameras when he got to work on the morning of Friday, July 16th. He estimated that the vehicle crashed down from approximately 50 feet in the air after leaving the highway. Prior to the crash, the vehicle can be seen on the surveillance video driving at excessive speeds.
Prior Hit and Run
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) revealed that the subject vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run collision just before the crash. The driver had been behaving very erratically – reversing the vehicle on Highway 99 and exiting the highway via an on-ramp.
The employee with the surveillance video explained that the crash happened when the vehicle failed to make a hard left turn and continued to go straight – that’s when the car flew over the entire overpass. He remarked that the car had narrowly “threaded the needle” between a set of power lines, barely missing one.
As seen in the video, the car crashes head-on into the ground, then rolls. It ultimately came to rest on its roof, engulfed in a large plume of smoke. Crash debris littered the roadway.
The Aftermath of the Crash
The driver of the crashed vehicle, a woman, somehow survived the horrific crash with relatively minor injuries. According to the CHP, this was not a case of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Information about the other motorists who were involved in the prior hit-and-run has not been released.
