Minor Injuries Reported in Two-Vehicle Intersection Accident

A Carmichael two-vehicle intersection accident on April 26 resulted in minor injuries. The collision occurred around 8:22 a.m. at the intersection of Winding Way and Stollwood Drive. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a Honda Accord and Acura were involved in the crash, and the vehicles were so badly damaged that tow trucks had to be called to remove them. The intersection accident is being investigated by authorities to determine how it occurred and to assign fault.

Minor Injuries in an Intersection Accident

With luck, minor injuries suffered in an accident are exactly that. However, delayed symptoms are common following an accident and can turn out worse than they initially appeared. This occurs because adrenaline flows through people when they are in an accident, which masks pain, and the person may be in a mild state of shock. Delayed symptoms may appear from hours to days or even weeks later. Seeing a physician or going to the emergency room following a collision is important in the event symptoms arise later.

Types of Injuries That Can Arise From Delayed Symptoms

Injuries of the following types may indicate a serious condition and can appear with delayed symptoms:

  • Cervical strain or sprain: Commonly called whiplash, this type of injury occurs due to the rapid back and forth movement of the head upon impact in an intersection accident. Cervical strain or sprain can affect the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and facet joints. Symptoms include dizziness, headache, neck tenderness, stiffness and problems with pain and swelling in the shoulder.
  • Back and spine injuries: Pain that arises in the back can indicate trauma of the muscles, discs or vertebrae. Symptoms can include soreness, stiffness, pain in the neck and lower back, difficulty moving, tenderness and cramping or muscle spasms. Tingling and numbness may occur also. Trauma to the spinal cord can cause paralysis, either temporarily or permanently.
  • Soft tissue injuries: Injuries to soft tissues can mean torn ligaments and strains in tendons and muscles, resembling whiplash and causing an inflammatory response. Symptoms can include tenderness or pain at the site, swelling, redness, muscle spasms, bruising and weakness.
  • Traumatic brain injuries: Ranging from mild to severe, brain injuries are caused when the head strikes the inside of the vehicle or just from being shaken during the impact. Symptoms include headache, weakness, fatigue, dizziness, problems concentrating, emotional changes, blurry vision and possible unconsciousness or coma. Because a TBI is one of the most serious types of trauma, emergency medical assistance can be required and may involve extended hospitalization and treatment. In some cases where brain damage occurs, the trauma may be permanent or life-threatening.

Dealing With the Insurance Company

The insurance company that you are suing may unintentionally benefit from a delay in seeking medical attention. Because you did not immediately seek treatment, they may argue that your pain can’t be severe. This could result in them minimizing or rejecting your claim. Having a lawyer on your side to represent you with the insurance company can be a good idea.

Our injury lawyers are adept at dealing with insurance companies and know all the tricks they use to lower or deny injury claims. This is important if you have been injured and want to obtain the compensation that you deserve.
