Accident on Fair Oaks Avenue Injures Five
A two-vehicle accident in Carmichael on October 25 resulted in five people being transported to nearby hospitals. The report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that it may have occurred because the sun was in the driver’s eyes when they went out into traffic. The accident happened around 3:00 in the afternoon on Fair Oaks Boulevard close to Stanley Avenue. The injuries suffered in the accident were described as minor in nature. The two-vehicle accident is under investigation by the CHP to determine how it happened and to assign fault.
Liability From Sun Glare Accidents
Sun glare as the cause of a two-vehicle accident is surprisingly common. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, hundreds of accidents each year are caused by sun glare. However, because motorists are expected to use a duty of care when driving, they should be prepared for problems caused by bright sunshine to avoid becoming involved in an accident.
Drivers involved in accidents caused by sun glare will probably be found liable for injuries to others unless there is additional negligence by the other motorist. If there was negligence by the other driver, reach out to an experienced car accident lawyer for help.
Some of the obvious ways a sun glare accident may be avoided include:
- Try and avoid going out in traffic at times when sun glare is a risk in your area.
- Use your vehicle’s visor to help block out the glare.
- Wear sunglasses.
- Alter your driving route to avoid sun glare.
- Keep the windshield and car dash clean.
- Allow more time to reach your destination.
- Keep more distance between your vehicle and the one ahead to avoid a rear-end accident.
Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Accident
The types of injuries that are frequently found after a two-vehicle accident are:
- Head injuries: This injury is one of the most devastating that can happen in a two-vehicle accident. Brain injuries can be life-threatening or cause severe debilitation for the remainder of the person’s life. Even when the type of traumatic brain injury is not as severe, it can still take years for the injured party to recover.
- Fractures: Broken bones range in severity and the type of treatment that is used. For the large majority, cast placement is sufficient. However, when the fracture is comminuted, or the bone is broken into numerous pieces, surgical intervention is needed.
- Chest injuries: Trauma to the chest can cause injury to the heart, lungs and ribs. It can be caused by impacting the dash or steering wheel. The chest restraints are also capable of causing injury to the chest area.
- Abdominal injury: Pressure from seat restraints or an impact injury can cause damage to the abdominal area. If the intestine or other organs are injured, a life-threatening situation can result. One of the most dangerous is when the bowel contents are released into the abdominal cavity. This often results in an infection that can cause a fatality if not immediately treated.
Investigating a Two-Vehicle Accident
Evidence that shows liability is critical if the accident claim will be successful. That is why our firm dispatches investigators to the accident scene as soon as possible. Once there, they interview witnesses who saw the accident happen and review police reports for mistakes. They also use accident reconstruction techniques that elaborate on the vehicles’ movement before, during, and after the crash.
To prove liability, our investigators also obtain video footage from traffic surveillance cameras and other sources. After all the evidentiary data is gathered, it is given to our injury attorneys, who use it to build a strong case for our client.
