Chico Motorcycle Crash Hospitalizes Two – Chico Police Department (CPD) officials reported that a serious vehicle accident took place in the northern area of the city on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Officers stated that the traumatic crash took place between a motorcycle and a pickup truck. Both the driver of the truck and motorcycle were reportedly left with serious injuries that required treatment at a hospital. Reports also indicated that the motorcyclist remained at the hospital and was still in critical condition as of the afternoon of Monday, November 5, 2018. The two injured individuals were identified by police reports as Zackery Summers, a 26-year-old man who had been riding the motorcycle, and Tong Lee, the 59-year-old male driver of the pickup truck.

Crash Information

According to police reports, Summers had been riding a motorized cycle not intended to be operated on public roadways. Summers had been riding westbound on Eaton Road close to the Morseman Avenue intersection just prior to the crash. Police say that Summers was attempting to make a turn onto Morseman Avenue in order to enter southbound lanes and had slowed or stopped on Eaton before navigating the intersection. At this time, Lee approached Summers from behind. The pickup crashed into the cycle and continued to travel west before finally striking a tree on the side of the road.

Injuries

Responding medical officials discovered that Summers had sustained a major head injury as a result of the accident. Whether or not Summers is expected to recover from his trauma has not been reported. Lee was also found with serious injuries. However, officials did not specify the nature of Lee’s trauma. No additional vehicles or individuals were reported to have been involved in the accident.

Investigation

Reports indicate that the intersection was closed for a full six hours while the Chico Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team looked for evidence that could help them determine the causal factors involved in this crash. Police say that the collision happened in an area with poor lighting and that Summers had not been wearing properly fastened safety gear. However, no further causal factors have been mentioned in reports.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Head injuries sustained in car accidents are often severe and can leave people with drastic symptoms that affect them for the rest of their lives. Often, recovering from a brain injury means not only re-learning everyday physical activities like bathing or preparing a meal but also means processing a difficult combination of emotions that can feel overwhelming. On top of recovering physically and emotionally, those with traumatic brain injuries are also often unable to continue working, which can mean serious financial problems for their family.

If a traumatic brain injury has affected your family, calling a lawyer is often a vital step in claiming payments that can help you and your loved ones move on with confidence after such a traumatic event. A good Chico personal injury lawyer will be able to help you understand what damages you may be able to recover and can advise you depending on your case’s specific details.
