Corning Collision Reportedly Caused by Turning Vehicle on South Avenue

A Chico woman suffered serious injuries in a head-on Corning collision on South Avenue at Kirkwood Road on the afternoon of March 3. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when a Dodge Ram pickup, heading eastbound, slowed to turn onto Kirkwood Road. The truck turned directly into the path of a westbound Toyota Corolla, resulting in a head-on collision that blocked both lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Dodge, a Corning resident, reportedly escaped without injury. However, the driver of the Toyota, identified as a woman from Chico, sustained significant injuries and was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment. CHP confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the CHP traffic collision unit.
