On October 12, 2016, a California Highway Patrol vehicle was involved in an automobile accident with a white station wagon carrying a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman is still recovering a week after the accident.
What Happened?
Adam Leonard was the driver of the white station wagon and the boyfriend of the pregnant woman, Amy Cooper. Cooper was 35 weeks pregnant at the time of the collision when a CHP patrol SUV carrying two officers inside the vehicle T-boned the passenger side of Leonard’s car. Cooper was sitting in the passenger seat and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Cooper is still treating at the Trauma Nursing Unit at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. A GoFundMe account has been created to assist Cooper with medical expenses due to injuries suffered in the crash.
Government Vehicle Accidents
If you or a family member has been involved in an accident involving a government vehicle, a claim must be filed within 6 months or 180 days of the date of the accident. Typically, the statute of limitations is two years for personal injury claims. However, the statute of limitations is drastically reduced for accidents involving government entities. It is best to consult with an experienced attorney to help protect your rights.
