CHP Investigates Two Pedestrian Accidents
CHP Investigates Two Pedestrian Accidents
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced car accident attorney. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating two separate pedestrian accidents which took place in less than an hour of one another on the evening of Thursday, December 1, 2016. Unfortunately, both incidents resulted in fatalities for both of the victims that were involved.
First Pedestrian Accident
The first pedestrian accident occurred along Winton Way in Winton. A man, was described as a male of Latino descent and presumed to be in his 40s. Sadly, he was struck by a white pickup truck at approximately 5:15 pm. The driver of the white pickup truck fled from the scene. Deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Department arrived to the scene to aid the injured pedestrian by performing CPR. Unfortunately, they were unable to revive the victim and he was pronounced deceased at the scene due to his injuries. Investigators are currently searching for the motorist of the white pickup truck. However, no descriptions of the driver or vehicle have been released by authorities at this time.
Second Pedestrian Accident
Two witnesses observed a woman, who was clothed in dark-colored garments, lying “face down and motionless” along the eastbound lane for Ashby Road. The witnesses attempted to alert motorists approaching the woman but were unsuccessful. A driver behind the wheel of their 2000 Toyota Scion was approaching the intersection of Ashby Road and Trindade Road on the outskirts of Merced. According to Moises Onsurez, an officer for the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Scion struck the woman without realizing that she was in the roadway. Authorities were immediately dispatched to the scene. Sadly, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene by police. The Merced County Coroner’s Office later identified the woman as 21-year-old Erica Nava-Pimentel from Merced.
We extend our condolences to the family members of the two pedestrians that passed away in these tragic accidents.
