CHP Revises Napa Bus Crash Report
I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) revised an accident report on Monday, December 11, 2017, regarding an accident that took place in Napa on Monday, December 3, 2017 between a passenger vehicle and a local tour bus.
The Original Report
CHP had originally indicated that the tour bus had been empty of passengers when it was driving north on Highway 29 before attempting to perform a U-turn just north of the Dwyer Road intersection at around 2:00 p.m. Officers indicated that, while attempting the turn, the bus collided with a southbound vehicle that had been driving over the speed limit.
The only injury reported as a result of the bus accident was sustained by the driver of the car. The injured woman was identified as 32-year-old Napa resident Elizabeth Mohngnam. Mohngnam was found at the accident scene with moderate injuries and taken by ground ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center to receive medical treatment.
The report also stated that witnesses said the accident happened in front of the welcome sign for Napa Valley where tourists often stop to take photographs.
Report Updates
The report was updated and CHP Officer Marc Renspurger indicated that the final report concludes that the driver of the tour bus was at-fault for the bus accident. The bus driver, a 58-year-old El Sobrante resident apparently failed to give the other vehicle the right-of-way when performing the U-turn.
Additionally, the updated report indicated that Mohngnam had not been driving over the speed limit when the accident occurred. Finally, the updated report also revealed that the tour bus had not been empty when the collision occurred, but had been full of tourists.
Neither of the reports concluded that drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
Bus Collisions
Because buses are so large and carry a large number of passengers, accidents involving buses have a high chance of serious or even fatal injuries. Another Recent Napa Collision
This accident happened not long after another Napa injury accident which also involved a large vehicle. The accident in question occurred on November 18, 2017, and left one individual with major traumatic injuries.
CHP reported that the accident happened at about 11:50 p.m. on Highway 121 when a dump truck overturned after failing to negotiate a turn.
