Citrus Heights Fatal Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Citrus Heights car accident lawyer. A broadside collision involving three vehicles took place during the afternoon hours of Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Citrus Heights. Sadly, one person passed away as a result of the crash.
What Happened?
An elderly man was behind the wheel of his Acura sedan exiting out of a retail parking lot along the north side of Greenback Lane in the vicinity of Sunrise Boulevard. The man was making a left turn from the parking lot to enter the eastbound lanes of Greenback Lane at approximately 12:35 pm. He was broadsided by an oncoming Ford pickup in the westbound lanes of Greenback. The impact of the collision pushed the man’s Acura into a vehicle that was traveling eastbound along Greenback Lane.
One Fatality
The man driving the Acura was identified as an 88-year-old man. He was taken to a local hospital where he later passed away due to his injuries. His name has not been released by authorities pending notification of his family. The other two drivers were not injured in the crash.
What Caused the Accident?
Authorities do not believe that alcohol or speed played as factors in this fatal collision. Investigators will be trying to determine if the elderly man may have failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming Ford pickup that was approaching him.
