Things to Do in Citrus Heights in Late October
Here are some ideas for things to do in Citrus Heights during the last days of October 2020.
Submit a Name Idea for the City’s New Trail.
The Citrus Heights community is being asked to help name the new regional park and city-wide trail. Ideas must be submitted by October 31st.
The City of Citrus Heights is thrilled to soon be home to a new regional park and city-wide trail. The trail project is on track for design completion in Spring 2021, with an anticipated construction start in Spring/Summer 2021.
This will be the first Citrus Heights city-wide trail, and it will provide a convenient and safe connection between important city destinations, including parks, schools, numerous neighborhoods, and the Sunrise Market Place. The trail project is part of a broader vision to build multi-use trails and promote regional connectivity to Folsom Lake, Roseville, and ultimately the entire Sacramento area.
Highlights of the new trail:
- The multi-use trail will span 2.9 miles between Wachtel Way and Sunrise Boulevard near Arcade Creek Park. The trail will follow an existing SMUD corridor easement.
- The trail will connect to another new and exciting project – Citrus Heights’ first regional park. The park will include Tempo Park and Arcade Creek Park Preserve.
- The trail/park project is part of a plan to increase safety and walkability throughout Citrus Heights via improved conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians. It will incorporate the community’s unique landscape of open spaces, creekside trails, and parks. The project was made possible largely through a grant aimed at increasing walking and biking safety.
Check Out Your New Halloween Enthusiast Neighbor
Halloween is not canceled; it’s just a little different this year.
Brian Pentecost moved to Citrus Heights in September and has already made a name for himself by setting up a huge Halloween display in the yard of his Campfire Way home. He has been participating in the holiday with elaborate decorations for the past four years, but this will be the first time at his new residence. He is also looking into options for handing out Halloween candy while maintaining a safe distance.

Sacramento County Ideas to Celebrate Halloween Safely
Speaking of safely handing out candy, here are some guidelines put out by the County of Sacramento for alternative Halloween fun in the context of COVID-19:
- Host a virtual video Halloween gathering and have “best craft” and “best costume” contests.
- Halloween movie night at home or the drive-in (with household members only).
- Drop off small bags of candy on your neighbors’ porches (reverse trick-or-treating).
- Hold a neighborhood trunk-or-treat: decorate the cars in your driveway, and place treats in the open trunk for kids to help themselves.
- Organize a neighborhood scavenger hunt (no contact).
- Coordinate a car parade throughout your neighborhood or a socially distanced costume parade. Toss out candy with candy grabbers.
Sacramento County Also Reminds Us What Not to Do
- Do not travel to other neighborhoods this year for trick or treating.
- Do not participate in the usual walking up to front doors and receiving treats by hand. There are many ways to distribute treats while maintaining social distance.
