Major Injury Reported in Multiple-Vehicle Crash at State Route 20 Intersection

A major injury was reported in a Clearlake Oaks multiple-vehicle crash involving a big rig on September 26. The collision occurred at the State Route 20 intersection with Ocean Shores Drive around 9:14 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident involved a Dodge Ram pickup and one other vehicle in addition to the big rig

Multiple-Vehicle Crash Being Investigated to Determine Cause

One person was reportedly trapped inside their vehicle by the impact of the crash. At least one person suffered a major injury and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The roadway reopened around 10:45 a.m. An investigation is being conducted by the CHP to find out how the collision occurred and to place fault.

Types of Negligence That Cause a Multiple-Vehicle Traffic Accident

There are many types of negligence that can cause a multiple-vehicle traffic accident. Accidents that involve multiple vehicles can be complex, and more than one driver may be at fault for your injuries. If you or someone you know has been injured in such an accident, it is important to contact a personal injury attorney who can help you protect your rights and get the compensation you deserve.

Some of the reasons negligence can be the cause of a multiple-vehicle crash include:

  • Failing to yield the right-of-way
  • Speeding or driving recklessly
  • Failing to signal when changing lanes
  • Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Distracted driving (texting, talking on the phone, etc.)
  • Falling asleep at the wheel
  • Running a red light or stop sign
  • Tailgating

How Is a Multiple Vehicle Traffic Accident Investigated?

A multiple-vehicle crash is a serious matter that requires a thorough investigation. By enlisting the help of an injury lawyer, evidence may be obtained that will support your claim against the at-fault party/parties to recover the compensation you deserve. When someone else is responsible for your injuries, suffering the trauma is difficult enough. The injured person should not also be expected to shoulder the financial losses such as medical expenses and lost wages.

Collection of Evidence to Show the At-Fault Party Caused the Accident

The first order of business is to determine what caused the accident. This will involve interviewing witnesses, reviewing footage from nearby security cameras and examining the vehicles involved for evidence of mechanical failure. Reviewing the police report to look for inaccuracies and performing accident reconstruction, which often indicates which driver/drivers were responsible for the multiple-vehicle crash, is also important.

Why It’s a Good Idea to Hire an Injury Lawyer

An injury lawyer works hard to take the burden from your shoulders when you’ve been injured in a collision and want to place a claim to recover compensation. Because injury lawyers work on a contingency basis, you owe them nothing unless your case has been won. The lawyer should be upfront about what you will owe them if you win. However, it has been commonly shown that using an accident attorney to handle an injury claim often returns two to three times more than the person would have received if they dealt with the insurance company themself.
