Crash Fatally Injures 82-Year-old Galt Woman.

A two-vehicle collision took place in Galt on the morning of Friday, July 21, 2017. The accident, unfortunately, caused one victim to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

An 82-year-old Galt woman was behind the wheel of her Ford Taurus traveling along Cherokee Lane in the vicinity of Simmerhorn Road at approximately 9:15 am. At the same time, a 32-year-old Wilton woman was driving her Chevrolet Tahoe westbound along Simmerhorn Road. For unknown reasons, the Taurus allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign limit line at the intersection and drove directly into the path of the Chevrolet. The motorist of the Chevrolet attempted to avoid crashing into the Ford but was unsuccessful. The front end of the Chevrolet collided with the driver’s side of the Ford, resulting in a severe automobile accident.

Was Anybody Injured?

The motorist of the Chevrolet was transported to Kaiser South Sacramento for injuries that were described as minor. Sadly, the elderly woman driving the Ford succumbed to her injuries due to the collision.

My deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of the elderly woman who died in this tragic accident.

What Caused the Crash?

The cause of the crash has not been released due to the ongoing investigation. A Traffic Collision Report is generally processed within 2 weeks from the date of an accident. Traffic reports may sometimes contain errors about who is at fault. It is essential, especially when a victim has passed away in an automobile accident, to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who can study the accident scene and the sequence of events leading up to the collision to pinpoint liability.

Car Accident Statistics

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), a 2016 preliminary report estimated that as many as 40,000 victims died in motor vehicle accidents. Driver behavior was found to be a leading cause of these accidents involving the following factors:

  • Distracted Driving: Texting and Driving, a common form of distracted Driving, has been found to account for nearly 20% of all fatal auto accidents. Distracted Driving can be described as driving blind, a comprehensive distraction that can impair a motorist’s visual, cognitive, and manual abilities.
  • Drunk Driving: “Driving while intoxicated” or “Driving under the influence” is the term used for alcohol-related driving behavior. Accidents involving drunk drivers account for nearly 1/3 of traffic fatalities in the United States today. Studies have found that many of these impaired motorists are repeat offenders.
  • Reckless Driving: Reckless Driving is described as a motorist that operates a motor vehicle with an aggressive or reckless demeanor and puts other people on the road at risk. Some examples of reckless driving include speeding, failure to yield the right-of-way, and running a red light or stop sign.
