Crash Kills Woodland Woman
Crash Kills Woodland Woman
I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland auto accident attorney. A woman from Woodland passed away as a result of injuries she suffered in a three-vehicle collision.
The name of the 70-year-old woman is being withheld until her family members have been notified.
Sadly, she passed away at the UC Davis Medical Center where she was taken after being seriously injured in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Children Also Involved in Crash
Three children riding in the vehicle with the victim — whose ages varied from 1- to 7-years-old — sustained minor to moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Where Did the Crash Occur?
The collision occurred at 4:45 p.m. on County Road 102, just south of County Road 25. This area is located south of Woodland.
Tragic Crash was a Head On Collision
The California Highway Patrol indicated the accident was a head-on crash, which completely blocked County Road 102 when rescue workers arrived.
A preliminary report indicated that a 2005 Toyota Corolla being driven by the fatally injured victim, was headed north on County Road 102. She was traveling approximately 45 miles per hour. A Freightliner flatbed truck was traveling south at approximately 45 miles per hour along County Road 102. The driver of the flatbed truck, a resident of Fairfield, was not hurt in the collision.
Also traveling southbound on County Road 102, right behind the Freightliner flatbed truck, was a man from Woodland driving a 2007 Chevy pickup.
Corolla Drifted into Path of Oncoming Freightliner
For reasons still unclear, the Corolla drifted into the southbound lane of travel and right into the path of the Freightliner. The operator of the Freightliner applied the brakes immediately and swerved in the direction of the southbound right shoulder, investigators said. However, this did not prevent the Freightliner from colliding with the Corolla. The Corolla was destroyed and blocked the northbound lane of County Road 102. The Freightliner received major damage. It came to rest completely blocking the southbound lane of County Road 102.
The Chevy pickup truck received minor damage from flying debris due to the impact between the Corolla and the Freightliner.
Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash, the CHP reported. The crash is still under investigation.
