Garbage Truck Involved in Grant Line Road Crash at Jackson Highway
A multiple-vehicle crash involving a garbage truck near Rancho Cordova on August 28 caused injuries to four people. The collision occurred at the Grant Line Road intersection with Jackson Highway. The accident started a fire when all the vehicles caught on fire and power lines carrying high voltage were knocked down, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Blown Transformer Spreads Fire to Neighboring Fields
As a result of the accident, a transformer blew, causing a power outage. This also led to a fire that spread to the fields along both sides of the roadway, said a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesperson. First responders attended to the injured; three patients were transported to a hospital with trauma, while another received treatment at the scene and was released.
Jackson Highway Shut Down To Clear Scene and Extinguish Fires
Fire crews were able to put out the blaze. Jackson Highway was closed to traffic in that area until around 4:00 p.m., as the scene was cleared. An investigation by the CHP traffic crash unit determines the cause of the accident and assigns fault.
Collisions That Involve Trash Trucks
A garbage truck is much larger and heavier than a passenger vehicle. They also have limitations that make them a danger on the roadway. Accidents occur because trash trucks have to be on the road early in the morning, start and stop, and take up a lot of space. There are several ways a garbage truck driver could cause a severe injury accident, including:
- Speeding
- Overloading the truck
- Fatigue
- Distracted driving
- Blind spots
- Unqualified
- Improper maintenance
Liability in a Garbage Truck Collision
Accident injuries may be the driver’s responsibility in some cases. In cases where the driver wasn’t qualified, or maintenance was the problem, the company may also be held responsible. AutoAccident.com’s injury lawyers have successfully handled many accidents involving big commercial vehicles over the years and will also work hard to help you. The firm is committed to getting you fair compensation for your accident injuries, including the following:
- Medical: Collision-related medical expenses can be claimed. Recoverable costs include hospitalization, medical bills and testing, ambulance, surgeries, and rehabilitative care. Home care and medical goods such as a walker or wheelchair may also be recovered.
- Pain and suffering: This category covers the physical suffering your accident put you through. Because many people experience emotional and psychological trauma from an accident, they require treatment. Compensation can be recovered for that treatment, and to compensate the injured person for the trauma they suffered.
- Wages: It is possible to recover lost wages from the inability to work. An injured person may also take unpaid vacation or sick time, which can be recovered.
