Details on the Crash on Southbound I-680 in Concord

According to CHP traffic officers, the two vehicles collided on southbound I-680 at the Monument Boulevard off-ramp. Several vehicles allegedly pulled over to provide assistance to those involved. Injuries were reported in the car wreck. However, the severity of accident-related injuries and the number of injured parties were not immediately released by the police.

Things to Know About Car Accidents and Insurance Claims

When a person has been hurt in a crash caused by another party, they may be entitled to compensation for two types of damages: economic damages and non-economic damages. Economic damages are those losses that are financial in nature and can be verified through evidence such as assessments, projections, estimates, invoices, and other statements. They may include but are not limited to past and future costs of medical treatment, wage loss, property damage, and lost future earnings. Conversely, non-economic damages are intangible losses that may include loss of consortium, emotional distress, and pain and suffering. Since these are subjective and cannot be proven as easily as economic damages, an accident attorney will work with experts in the field to determine a fair and reasonable value for non-economic damages based upon the facts and circumstances of the case.

There are many factors that are involved in the personal injury claims process. The value of the case generally depends on the severity of accident-related injuries, duration of medical treatment, need for ongoing care, whether injuries are permanent and disabling, pre-existing medical conditions, amount of bodily injury liability coverage the other party has, and the uninsured and underinsured motorist limits carried by the injured party. Not all insurance carriers are willing to make the process straightforward as they are focused on protecting their profit margins. To accomplish this may often come at the cost of injured parties. That is why it is recommended to seek legal counsel after suffering traumatic injuries in a crash caused by a negligent driver.

In the time following the incident, the insurance company representing the other side may reach out to an injured party to request a recorded statement regarding the crash. The unfortunate reality is that the words in recorded statements may be taken out of context for the benefit of the insurer to downplay the value of a bodily injury claim or outright deny it. In other situations, the insurance carrier may delay the case in hopes of the time limit running out. Remember that personal injury cases are subject to a two-year statute of limitations. Is Hiring an Attorney Worth It?

In most cases, it is suggested that injured parties retain legal counsel to protect their rights and best interests from difficult insurance companies. That is because they may be taken advantage of in their time of recovery. An initial settlement offer may be tempting to accept but may be far below what an injured person needs to put the life-changing crash behind them.
