Crash South of Lincoln Results in Deadly Trauma
One person lost their life after a crash south of Lincoln that took place on Monday, January 18, 2021. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred in the late morning in an unincorporated rural area just outside of the city. County officials are still withholding the identity of the decedent pending family notification, and the accident is still under investigation by CHP.
Crash Details
The collision occurred at around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Athens Avenue and North Foothills Boulevard. Initial investigations of the collision suggest that the decedent was driving an SUV away from a local landfill when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted over the roadway median and into the oncoming lane. Shortly after, the SUV crashed head-on into a utility truck that had been hauling a trailer. Both vehicles sustained serious damage during the crash.
Response
Accident witnesses contacted CHP, and dispatchers immediately rushed a response team to the site. At the crash scene, responders found that the SUV driver was critically injured and, sadly, the man was pronounced deceased. Whether or not other parties suffered trauma as a result of this tragic accident has not been reported.
Investigation
As investigations into possible causes of the crash continue, police have indicated that driving under the influence is not suspected to have played a role. Often, crashes like this one are complicated incidents and are caused by multiple factors, many of which can be things drivers aren’t able to control. Examples of non-driver crash causes include vehicles with defective parts and dangerously damaged roads.
Furthermore, deadly accidents can present a major challenge to investigating officers. If they cannot ask the decedent about what occurred, police might not ever uncover all of the relevant evidence, leaving families unable to hold negligent parties responsible for their losses. For this reason, it is important to have a Lincoln wrongful death lawyer investigate the accident themselves. This will mean that an experienced professional is committing time and resources toward representing your family’s rights during investigations.
Calling an Attorney
Families affected by fatal collisions can feel overwhelmed and may want to delay calling a lawyer for this reason. While this is totally understandable and families should take time to cope with their grief, having a lawyer on your side early on in a wrongful death case often makes a significant difference in your ability to claim compensation for lost income, medical bills, lost services, funeral expenses, and other important damages.
Fortunately, getting in touch with a trustworthy attorney is actually an easy thing to do. For information about how to best find a skilled Lincoln wrongful death lawyer, watch the below video:
