Why Settling Too Quickly With the Insurance Company Might Be a Bad Idea
Victims of traffic accidents might be anxious to put the accident behind them. While this is an excellent mindset, moving too quickly could interfere with the victim being fully compensated. This is compounded by the fact that insurance companies are often quick to offer a settlement amount that may be inadequate.
When recovery amount demands are made, it is important that the demand covers the entire financial loss the victim suffers. In some cases, a victim might not be aware of how badly they have been injured. Treatments for an injury can change, lengthening the time it takes to heal, and complications might occur. Psychological damage as a result of the trauma of the accident may not be apparent right away either.
Once the victim of an accident settles with an insurance company, they cannot go back and ask for more money. That is why it is a good idea to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney, who is adept at calculating financial damages and negotiating with insurance companies using medical records and expert opinion as to the severity of the injury. If the insurance company fails to compensate the victim, an attorney might need to take the case to trial.
