Double Parking Violation Law Enforced in Davis
The California university town of Davis will be enforcing its law for violators that are found parked in two spaces during the lunchtime hour. The purpose of the law is to reduce the congestion of traffic conditions and spaces for parking availability in order to welcome more visitors to the Downtown Davis area.
Downtown Davis Background
The Downtown Davis area is a designated region of 32 blocks that were created in 1989 by the Davis Business Improvement District. The Davis Business Improvement District worked with the Davis Downtown Business Association to organize and form the established downtown area. The area is directed by a Board of Directors containing 11 members that organize and plan the Marketing and Events Committees, Parking and Downtown Committees, and the Community Relations Committees. The Downtown Davis area welcomes bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicle visitors to come by and enjoy the local, distinct cuisines that it has to offer.
Why?
The Downtown Parking Task Force made a recommendation that traffic circulation in the downtown area is congested due to commercial vehicles that are double-parked in parking spaces. For this reason, accessible parking and a reduction in traffic should be expected for the new ordinance. The ordinance states that no commercial vehicle shall be double-parked Monday through Saturday during the hours of 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. The Davis Police Department will be enforcing the new law on Monday, August 29th, 2016.
