Rollover Collision on Russell Boulevard Causes Major Injury
A major injury accident occurred in Davis on September 5 when a vehicle experienced a rollover. The accident happened along Russell Boulevard between Road 95A and Pierce Ranch Road around 12:48 p.m. involving one vehicle. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Yolo County Fire Department responded to discover a small 4-door on its hood with major damage and an injured person inside.
Driver Suffers Head Injury in Rollover Crash
The driver suffered a head injury in the crash and was transported to Kaiser Vacaville Medical Center by air ambulance. Authorities believe the driver may have been drinking, and a phlebotomist was reportedly called to the hospital to administer a blood test to determine if this was so.
Rollover Collisions
A rollover collision is a type of traffic accident in which a vehicle tips over onto its side or roof. Rollover accidents can occur when a vehicle collides with another object, such as a guardrail or another vehicle or when the driver loses control of the vehicle, and it veers off the road. Rollover accidents are often more serious than other types of traffic accidents because the passengers in the vehicle can be ejected from the vehicle or crushed by the weight.
Roof Crush in a Rollover Major Injury Accident
Roof crush occurs when a vehicle can’t support the weight if the car experiences a rollover. Even though manufacturers are expected to construct their vehicles so this isn’t a danger, not all of them do. Retaining the vehicle following a rollover is necessary, so it can be examined. If roof crush occurred, the manufacturer and others may be held responsible through filing a product liability claim.
If you have suffered a major injury in a rollover collision, it is important to seek medical attention immediately, even if you do not think you are injured. Many times, a major injury such as internal bleeding and spinal cord injuries may not be immediately apparent.
Head Injuries in Rollovers
Rollovers are one of the leading causes of head injuries in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 10,000 people are killed and another 25,000 are seriously injured each year in rollover accidents.
Types of Head Injuries
There are two main types of head injuries: closed and open:
- Closed head injuries occur when the brain is injured by a blow to the head or by shaking (also known as acceleration-deceleration injuries). These types of injuries can cause bleeding, swelling and damage to the brain.
- Open head injuries occur when the skull is fractured or penetrated by an object. These types of injuries can also cause damage to the brain.
Head and traumatic brain injuries can cause a wide range of disabilities, including cognitive impairment, sensory, communication and physical impairments. Cognitive impairments can include problems with memory, attention and decision-making. Sensory impairments can include vision and hearing loss. Communication impairments can consist of difficulty speaking, reading and writing. Physical impairments can include paralysis, weakness and problems with coordination and balance.
