Davis Resident Dies in Oakland Motorcycle Accident

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, a man from Davis sadly lost his life during an Oakland motorcycle accident. The individual was identified by The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department the following day as 51-year-old Davis resident Christopher Jones. According to police, the accident happened at night on an east bay highway and involved two vehicles. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Crash Information

The crash happened at around 11:17 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 24 just before the junction at Highway 13 near the Caldecott Tunnel. CHP said that Jones was driving a Yamaha motorcycle and, for unknown reasons, had pulled his bike over to the right-hand highway shoulder. Jones was reportedly re-entering the freeway when he was struck from behind by an eastbound Honda Accord. The impact threw Jones from his motorcycle and into an adjacent traffic lane.

Response teams arrived at the site shortly following the collision and discovered that Jones was critically injured. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased before he could be transported to a hospital. No other individuals were reported to have suffered injuries during this incident.

Investigation

All eastbound lanes of the highway were shut off to traffic for around 45 minutes, while CHP investigators surveyed the crash scene. As police continue with investigations, officials have reported that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the crash. Collision witnesses and anyone with relevant information have been asked to assist CHP with their investigation by calling the Oakland office at (510) 457-2875.

Collisions like this one are often very hard for police to investigate because officers are unable to ask the decedent about what happened. Without a full picture of the accident, police may not uncover evidence that could be a critical part of a wrongful death case. To be sure that all negligent parties are held accountable, it’s important to seek help from a Davis wrongful death attorney who can launch a private accident investigation.

Calling an Attorney

Families that have recently lost a loved one due to an auto accident are often in a state of shock. The initial stages of grieving can be intense, especially after such an unexpected and tragic event. For this reason, many people need to take time away from their normal responsibilities in order to be with their loved ones and process their grief.

While it’s very important to focus on your wellbeing during traumatic times, it’s also vital to contact a wrongful death lawyer as soon as you are able to do so. Because negligent parties are quick to begin building a defense against liability, having a lawyer early is an important part of claiming the payments that you and your family deserve for damages like income loss, personal suffering, loss of services, funeral expenses, and more.
