Double-Vehicle Plumas County Crash Causes Trauma

Two people suffered injuries during a Plumas County Crash that took place on Monday, January 18, 2021. Police have reported that this accident involved two passenger vehicles and occurred in the afternoon. The injured parties were identified as a 23-year-old man from Oroville and a 43-year-old woman from Quincy who suffered minor and major injuries, respectively. Updates on the health condition of the Oroville man have not been provided and the accident is still under California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation.

Crash Information

The incident happened on Highway 70 to the west of Rush Creek Road. According to CHP, the Quincy woman was eastbound driving a 2007 black Ford F-150 at a speed of around 50 miles per hour. At the same time, the Oroville man was driving west in a FedEx box van at an unstated speed.

The two vehicles both entered a sharp curve when, for unknown reasons, the F-150 drifted over the median and drove into the path of the van. The left-front end of the pickup truck collided with the front of the van, causing both vehicles to spin out in a clockwise direction. The pickup reportedly came to a stop facing northwest on top of the median, blocking both highway lanes. The van came to a stop facing west inside of the northern highway shoulder.

Response

Responders arriving at the accident site found that the Quincy woman had been able to climb out of her wrecked vehicle through a broken window. However, the Oroville man was reportedly knocked unconscious during the collision and needed to be extricated from the FedEx van. Personnel from the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department reportedly used heavy machinery to free the man from the wreck.

After extrication, medical responders determined that the Oroville man was seriously injured and had him rushed to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico for emergency treatment. Whether or not the Quincy woman received hospital care was not reported.

Investigation

While CHP continues to look into possible causes of this car accident, officers haven’t stated any likely factors. In cases like these, there may be more than one causal factor and many common causes of auto accidents are not driver-related. Non-driver auto accident causes include issues with roadway hazards, defective vehicle parts, and more.
