Elderly Man Dies in Oakley Car Crash
A male in his 60’s passed away on Saturday, June 22, after being involved in a two-vehicle collision in Oakley. The deceased driver has been identified as 66-year old Sherman Tucker, an Oakley resident. Tucker was driving a van at the time of the incident when he crashed into another car, which left one person with injuries.

Oakley Car Accident Details
The car crash took place at the corner of O’Hara Avenue and West Cypress Road. It was approximately 10:23 a.m. at the time of the collision. Tucker was allegedly driving at a speed of about 100 miles per hour right before striking a power pole and knocking it over. Tucker’s car then preceded to flip over before coming to a halt upside down. Tucker was trapped inside his vehicle, according to police. He was the sole occupant inside the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency response crews.
Sgt. Robert Roberts of the Oakley Police Department arrived on-site shortly after it occurred. He described the situation as “pretty horrific.” The telephone pole had been shredded and laid on its side. One car was lying on its roof, said Roberts. When questioned about the older gentleman who had died at the scene, Roberts stated that he believed that there had been either a medical complication or mechanical issue that led to the accident.
When Tucker’s black van was allegedly speeding out of control, his vehicle also hit another car nearby. One unidentified person inside the second car sustained injuries from the collision. The injured person was taken via medical helicopter to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and is anticipated to make a full recovery, according to Roberts.
