Driver Falls Asleep and Hits Metal Fence in Brentwood
I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood Car Accident Lawyer. One man was injured after a solo car accident that occurred in Brentwood on Saturday, July 21. A Dodge Avenger drifted off the road, crashed into a metal fence by a home located along the 11000 block of Brentwood Boulevard, and launched into a nearby tree. Crews from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) arrived at the site of the wreck to assist in removing the vehicle from the tree. The male driver indicated that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel moments before the crash, according to a statement from a Brentwood police officer at the scene. The driver walked away from the accident with only minor injuries and reportedly declined medical attention at the scene.
Medical Treatment After a Car Accident
After an auto accident, it is normal to feel overwhelmed. Your first instinct may be to minimize the severity of the situation; however, it is necessary to consider the possibility of having sustained an injury. Although you may feel fine initially, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly to document your crash as some symptoms may not present themselves immediately after a collision.
Physical Pain
Pain is one of the most obvious signs that you should schedule a visit with a doctor. Delayed pain is also rather common after an accident, which can show up days or even weeks afterward. Observe and note the severity and location of the pain. Headaches can be a symptom of concussions or brain injury, neck and shoulder pain are common signs of cervical sprain, and back pain can be a signal of a herniated disc.
Numbness
Sensations such as numbness, tingling, and weakness within the limbs are commonly linked to pinched nerves or herniated discs. If these sensations are left untreated, they can turn into severe problems and potentially cause other complications. If part of your body feels as if it is “asleep,” or being poked by pins and needles, contact a medical provider immediately.
Dizziness
Dizziness tends to be a direct result of accident-related injuries. Dizziness is commonly experienced after sustaining a neck, ear, or head injury. It can also be a symptom of internal bleeding, which can have fatal consequences if left untreated. Your body may also experience poor circulation following an accident; therefore, medical assistance should be sought to further determine the cause of your symptoms.
