Driver Sent to Hospital Following Intersection Collision in Eureka
On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, a double-vehicle collision in Eureka left one individual with serious injuries. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) indicated that this accident occurred in the afternoon in the central area of the city just off of Highway 101/Broadway Street. The injured party was reportedly hospitalized and was the only individual who suffered serious injuries during the incident. EPD is actively investigating this accident.
Crash Details
The crash occurred at around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of W Del Norte Street and Fairfield Street. Minimal details about what took place just prior to the collision have been reported. However, EPD stated that a white Honda Civic crashed into a minivan, causing the second vehicle to overturn. Photos of the accident scene show damage to the front end of the Honda and the minivan lying on its side.
EPD also reported that one of the vehicles struck a telephone pole, causing a 12-foot crack up the middle of the structure. Electrical wires were down at the crash scene, but officials indicated that they were not live.
Response
Response officials arriving at the location of the accident discovered that the minivan driver was trapped inside of the vehicle. Firefighters removed the individual using emergency extrication equipment and had them driven to the St. Joseph Hospital for immediate medical care. No information was reported regarding the nature of the drivers’ injuries.
Investigation
While EPD continues to conduct a full-scale accident investigation, police have yet to mention any likely causes of the crash. In many cases, collisions similar to this one occur due to more than one factor. Furthermore, a number of the most common vehicle accident causes aren’t driver-related. Examples include dangerously defective auto parts and hazardous roads.
