Outside Influences That Cause a Driver to Lose Control of their Vehicle
Driver error is usually found to be responsible for a major injury accident where the driver loses control of their vehicle. However, outside influences can also cause this type of collision, including the following:
- Road conditions can be a major factor in a driver’s ability to maintain control of their vehicle. Road features such as potholes or uneven surfaces may contribute to loss of control. Even small pieces of debris in the road could cause a driver to lose control if they are unable to avoid it in time. The government entity charged with roadway maintenance may be held liable if negligence caused the collision. The time limit in which to file a claim against a government entity is six months, after which, the case will not be heard in court. Getting assistance from an accident lawyer can be useful to meet that deadline, and the lawyer can handle the negotiations for your compensation recovery.
- Mechanical failure, such as tire blowouts, malfunctioning brakes or steering system problems, can cause the driver to lose control and lead to a major injury accident. When a defective part is found to be the cause of an accident, an auto product liability claim may be filed against the maker, manufacturers and others included in the production line.
- Animals in the road can cause a driver to swerve quickly, lose control and become involved in a collision. While an accident caused by an animal usually involves a deer, cattle, horses and other farm animals that have escaped can also cause a major injury accident. In these cases, the owner of the animal might be liable.
