Driver Saved from Vehicle After Paradise Car Accident
On Monday, February 1, 2021, one person was rescued from a wrecked vehicle after a serious Paradise car crash. The accident happened just outside of the city and involved only one car. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the rescued driver was seriously injured and that no other individuals were involved in the crash. Currently, updates on the injured party’s condition have not been provided and police are still investigating the incident.
Crash Details
The collision took place on Skyway close to Lookout Point at around 1:00 p.m. Few details were reported about what took place before the incident. However, police indicated that a passenger vehicle veered off-road and struck a guardrail before careening around 200 feet down to the bottom of Butte Creek Canyon.
Response
Witnesses contacted CHP, and responders were immediately sent to the site. Multiple agencies assisted with accident response, including the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Cal Fire-Butte County, CHP, and Butte EMS. Emergency personnel at the scene found the individual in the vehicle and performed an emergency extrication. After removing the injured party from the wreck, responders used a high-angle pully system to drag the driver out of the canyon on a stretcher.
The driver was out of the canyon at around 2:00 p.m. and received medical care at the scene before being transported to a regional hospital by helicopter to treat major injuries. Specific details of their injuries were not provided.
Investigation
Police kept the highway closed to traffic for a significant amount of time while investigators surveyed the scene for evidence. However, the officers investigating this accident haven’t yet reported any specific causes.
