Three Injuries Reported in Accident Near Carmichael Park
An accident in Carmichael on May 13 caused injuries to three people, and drunk driving may have contributed to it. The collision happened close to Carmichael Park, along Fair Oaks Boulevard, at about 1:30 a.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Authorities with the CHP said the driver and two others suffered injuries in the collision, however, no information was provided on how seriously they were hurt. Someone near the area when the crash occurred ran over to it in an attempt to assist those in the vehicle. The accident is being investigated by the CHP.
Driving Under the Influence and Traffic Accidents
Approximately 28 people are killed in drunk driving accidents every day, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem of drunk drivers in California persists despite a strong police presence and educational efforts to prevent people from driving after drinking. Driving under the influence of alcohol can lead to serious injuries or fatalities if a drunk driver gets behind the wheel of a car. The effects of alcohol on a driver are as follows:
- An alcohol level of even 0.02, which is well below the legal limit of 0.08 for drunk driving, can negatively affect a driver’s vision and the ability to multitask.
- Driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.05 means that the driver has trouble tracking with their eyes, their coordination is impaired and they have problems steering.
- A driver who has 0.08 blood alcohol content is legally drunk and has trouble processing information, concentrating and controlling the speed of their vehicle.
- By the time the blood level reaches 0.10, the driver has a very difficult time controlling the vehicle and reacting appropriately, and they have difficulty braking properly and staying in their lane.
- A person who has a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 will lose their sense of balance, may vomit, be unable to control their muscles and have serious vision and hearing problems.
Finding Evidence Supporting an Injury Claim
An injured party who is claiming compensation can use a conviction for drunk driving as persuasive evidence in their compensation claim. Furthermore, the injury attorney gathers evidence in support of the client’s claim, such as:
- To determine if the accident was recorded on tape, traffic cameras are examined in the area. These video recordings can be subpoenaed to support your claim.
- In drunk driving cases, the police accident report must be reviewed for accuracy, since errors could prevent compensation from being awarded.
- Interviews are conducted with any witnesses. Cell phones have been used by some witnesses to capture accidents as they happen.
- Accident reconstruction is performed by investigators, which reveals how vehicles were positioned before, during and after the collision. Both insurance companies and civil courts accept accident reconstruction as evidence in the case.
As soon as the evidence is collected, our lawyers begin building a case that firmly supports our client’s claim for compensation.
