DUI Collision Kills Modesto Woman
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. A man from Oakdale was driving under the influence during the afternoon hours of Thursday, May 25, 2017. The man allowed his vehicle to enter the oncoming lane of travel and collide head-on with a woman from Modesto. Sadly, the impact from the collision caused the woman to suffer fatal injuries.
What Happened?
A 34-year-old Oakdale man was behind the wheel of his Acura MDX traveling eastbound along Parker Road. At the same time, a 28-year-old woman was driving her Mazda 3 westbound along Parker Road. The Oakdale man’s Acura veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the woman’s Mazda.

The following video demonstrates the scene of the head-on collision. As you may view in the video, the impact from the accident caused both vehicles to sustain major body damage.
What Caused the Accident?
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the Oakdale man in the Acura was driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident. The man was detained on suspicion of felony driving under the influence at the scene. The man was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for felony DUI. The man may face additional charges as authorities investigate further into the accident.
Was Anybody Injured?
The woman in the Mazda 3 was trapped inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Head-on accidents are among the most fatal type of motor vehicle collisions. According to U.S. statistics, head-on collisions accounted for 2% of all accidents and 10.1% of fatal crashes. Despite statewide efforts toward decreasing head-on crashes, they still continue to take place every day.
