DUI Crash Patterson
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury attorney. Three teenage boys were driving together in Patterson during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 28, 2017. The driver of the vehicle was allegedly driving under the influence, which later resulted in a devastating automobile accident.
What Happened?
Three 17-year-old boys from Patterson were traveling in a 1998 Lexus at about 2:40 am. The driver of the Lexus allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a palm tree. The impact from the collision caused the car to overturn multiple times and come to a rest upside down along the middle of the road.
What Caused the Accident?
Authorities have not officially released a cause of the accident. Traffic Collision Reports can take a week or two to be prepared. A preliminary statement released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the driver allegedly had a high level of intoxication.
It is important to note that accident reports may contain an error or be inconclusive in determining fault. Two of the three teens were transported to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. One of the teens passed away due to the collision.

According to a statistic report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 9,967 victims were fatally injured in impaired driving collisions, which accounted to nearly one-third of all traffic-related fatalities in the United States. In a 2015 Accident Statistic Report for the city of Modesto, alcohol was involved in 114 (10.6%) of all accidents. Accidents involving DUI are among the most serious types of collisions because impaired motorists may not make wise driving decisions while behind the wheel, leading to an increased risk of injury.
