DUI Driver Arrested After Head-On Crash in Arnold
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has recently released details regarding a driver getting arrested for DUI after a head-on crash in the Arnold area. The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, April 17, 2021, on Highway 4 near Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County shortly after 10:00 a.m.
Preliminary Investigation of the DUI Head-On Crash in Arnold
CHP traffic officials reported that a 21-year-old Merced woman was driving westbound on State Route 4 in a 2006 Honda Civic. At the same time, a 61-year-old Dorrington man was approaching from the opposite direction in a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup truck. For unknown reasons, the Honda driver reportedly entered the oncoming traffic lane and collided head-on with the Ford in the eastbound lane.
The Honda driver suffered serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to a Modesto area hospital. The passenger of the Honda, a 21-year-old Modesto man, suffered injuries described as moderate. The Ford driver had minor injuries. Both parties were transported via ground ambulance to a hospital in Sonora. Just before the Honda driver was flown from the scene, she was reportedly arrested on a felony charge of driving under the influence (DUI), causing injury. Further details on the incident were not immediately available as an investigation is ongoing.
What is a Head-On Collision?
In California, a head-on collision is a common type of motor vehicle collision. It occurs when the front-end of one car strikes another from the opposite direction. Unfortunately, these accidents often result in serious injury or even wrongful death. The damages caused by a head-on crash may be significant and are usually covered by the insurance company representing the at-fault party.
Should I Talk to the Insurance Company After a Car Accident?
Auto insurance companies often attempt to take advantage of injured parties after a head-on collision. One of the ways in which they do is attempting to shift blame onto the claimant to reduce the value of their bodily injury claim or outright deny it. This is an attempt toward making the claims process as challenging for the injured party as possible and may present a number of obstacles for them to overcome, particularly if they are not represented by an attorney.
For instance, an insurance company may dispute the severity of an injury in a head-on collision if the injured party was not properly restrained by a seat belt. In other situations, they may suggest that the crash had nothing to do with their insured driving negligently, such as speeding, unsafe overtaking of slower vehicles, and driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).
While not always the case, it is best to always be prepared for what the future may have in the claims process.
