DUI Driver Arrested After Merced County Collision

A driver was reportedly arrested on suspicion of DUI after a head-on collision in the Merced County area on Sunday, October 18, 2020. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the area of Santa Fe Drive and El Capitan Way around 10:25 a.m. for a head-on collision involving two vehicles. Officials said a 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan was headed eastbound on El Capitan Way in the vicinity of Santa Fe Drive. The Mercedes-Benz allegedly veered into the oncoming traffic lane and crashed head-on with a Chevrolet 3500 truck towing a flatbed trailer. The Chevrolet driver suffered minor injuries in the car accident while the Mercedes-Benz driver sustained moderate to serious injuries. Due to the nature of the Mercedes-Benz driver’s injuries, officials conducted a limited field sobriety test and determined him to be under the influence. It is unknown whether he was charged in connection with the head-on collision and DUI.

Causes of Head-On Collisions

When handling a personal injury claim for a car accident, it is essential to understand what factors led up to the incident and who should be held financially accountable for economic and non-economic damages. Some potential causes of head-on collisions include:

  • Distracted driving from the use of a cell phone or other action that diverts a driver’s attention off the roadway
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Reckless driving like unsafely overtaking a slower moving vehicle
  • Speeding
  • Failure to adjust driving to low visibility or poor weather
  • Ignoring traffic signals and signs

By conducting an independent investigation of the crash from every angle and working with accident reconstruction experts, our legal team can determine the cause of the collision and which parties should be held responsible. From there, we can seek full and fair personal injury compensation on your behalf to rebuild your life.
