Modesto DUI Crash Seriously Injures Four — On September 18, 2018, a head-on collision occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. in southwest Modesto. A 24-year-old Ceres woman was driving her white 1999 Saturn sedan northbound along Carpenter Road in the vicinity of Hatch Road when her vehicle veered into the oncoming traffic lane. The Saturn reportedly entered the direct path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado, resulting in a severe head-on collision. The impact propelled the Chevrolet off the west side of the roadway while the Saturn came to a rest along Carpenter Road. Crews from the Modesto Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate the drivers of the Saturn and Chevrolet. Medical personnel transported both drivers and two passengers of the Saturn to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. So far, an update regarding the conditions of those injured in this crash has not yet been released by officials.
Common Causes of Head-On Collisions
Head-on collisions are considered the most dangerous type of auto accident due to the speed traveled by each vehicle involved. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these accidents tend to occur more frequently in rural areas than in urban areas. Some of the reasons why these crashes happen include distracted driving, driving under the influence, fatigued driving, and passing on the wrong side of the road.
Common Injuries in Head-On Collisions
The types of injuries suffered from a head-on collision are endless and vary upon multiple factors. These may include an individual’s size, seating position, the rate of speed traveled by each car involved, and safety features within the vehicle. Some of these accidents may result in injuries such as abdominal trauma, bone fractures, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and more. In some extreme cases, wrongful death may also occur as a result.
Passenger Injury Claims
As a passenger who has suffered injuries in an auto accident, you have the same rights as those of motorists. Since passengers very rarely contribute to the fault of a collision, they may be able to recover damages from multiple parties. These may include the driver of the vehicle in which the passenger was riding in and the motorists of other vehicles involved in the crash. Other parties that also may be considered include employers and registered owners of all cars involved.
If it turns out that the auto accident was caused by a friend or family member, he or she may be responsible for your losses including medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial damages. In these situations, the automobile insurance policy of your friend or family member would be covering your damages which should not affect his or her personal assets. This is just the natural course of how a personal injury claim is handled in an accident. It is essential to keep in mind that there is no reason your rightful recovery of compensation for your injuries and other damages should cause harm to a personal relationship you have with the at-fault driver even if that person is your friend or family member.
