DUI Suspected in Modesto Injury Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. A suspected DUI accident occurred in northeast Modesto recently. The collision, unfortunately, caused four parties to suffer serious injuries.
I would like to send my healing thoughts to the four injured parties of this accident.
What Happened?
A 36-year-old Oakdale man was driving his silver Chevrolet Impala eastbound along Claribel Road in the vicinity of Claus Road. The Oakdale man allegedly allowed his vehicle to enter the opposing lane of travel and collide head-on with a Chrysler Town and Country minivan. The impact of the collision reportedly caused the Chevrolet to catch fire as a result.
Nature of Injuries
The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major internal injuries and various bone fractures. The Chrysler driver, identified as a 45-year-old Modesto woman, suffered serious injuries. One 8-year-old girl in the Chrysler sustained a femur fracture in the collision and was transported via air ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. The other passenger of the Chrysler, also an 8-year-old girl, was sent to the Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera for treatment of contusions and internal injuries.
What Caused the Accident?
An exact cause of the accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). However, investigators believe the Oakdale man was driving under the influence leading up to the crash.
Drunk Driving Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
Intoxicated motorists routinely cause catastrophic accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported 10,497 fatalities from drunk driving accidents in 2016. Any person who causes an auto accident while under the influence of an intoxicant is considered negligent and can be held liable for all resulting losses such as:
- Medical Expenses
- Lost Wages
- Pain and Suffering
- Punitive Damages
- Wrongful Death
Filing a personal injury claim involving drunk driving can be a complicated process without the assistance of an experienced personal injury lawyer in Modesto. An experienced attorney can guide you through the process of obtaining fair compensation for your damages.
