Elderly Motorist Killed After Three Car Accident in Antioch

I’m Ed Smith, an Antioch Wrongful Death Lawyer. One person passed away following a three-car collision in Antioch on Saturday, April 23, 2018. Officials have confirmed the identity of the 93-year old woman. Betty James initially survived the accident and was immediately hospitalized for her critical injuries. The Clayton resident was still at the hospital when she succumbed to her injuries the day after the car wreck. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to all those that are mourning their loss during this grief-stricken time.

Accident Information: When, Where, and How it Happened

According to police officers, three cars were involved in an accident that took place shortly after 3:00 p.m. The incident happened on James Donlon Boulevard, just by the intersection of Silverado Drive. Police statements indicate that a Buick Regal sedan was northbound along Silverado Drive before turning onto James Donlon. At the same time, a Ford pickup truck was traveling east along James Donlon while moving towards the T-shaped intersection. The truck collided into the Buick, smashing into the door on the driver’s side. The impact of T-boning the Buick pushed the vehicle into another nearby car.

Emergency Response and Injuries

Betty James appeared to be driving alone when the incident took place. She was unable to free herself from the Buick, and paramedics had to use hydraulic tools to remove her from the vehicle. Ambulance services then transferred the woman to a nearby hospital, where she received immediate medical attention.

None of the occupants of the other two cars involved appeared to be injured. Additionally, drugs and alcohol were not determined to be involved in the collision.

Antioch Accidents On The Rise

There have been multiple car wrecks in Antioch so far this year. There was a car vs. pedestrian accident on March 16, which resulted in one death. The 69-year old man was struck by a vehicle while he was walking home from work. The elderly pedestrian fought for his life for weeks after the collision, but his family decided to pull the plug on April 11 after it was made clear that recovery seemed unlikely to occur. The injured male was in a coma for weeks, and he never regained consciousness.
