Elderly Woman Loses Life After Fairfield Hit-and-Run

On Thursday, October 22, one person tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle during a Fairfield hit-and-run. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedent as Namie Stewart, an 81-year-old woman from Fairfield. According to the Fairfield Police Department (FPD), the crash happened late at night, and officers are still searching for the missing driver.

Collision Details

The incident was reported to FPD at around 11:00 p.m. Callers indicated to police that a woman was lying in the road in the area of Laurel Creek Park near Cement Hill. Responders were immediately sent to the location and, upon arrival, discovered Stewart had been severely injured. Stewart was placed on an ambulance and rushed to a local hospital where doctors attempted life-saving procedures. However, she tragically passed away while at the hospital.

Investigation

FPD has indicated that they are investigating the incident as a felony hit-and-run and have not provided any information regarding the involved vehicle and driver. As they continue their investigation, FPD has asked for any accident witnesses or individuals with information about the incident to tell police what they know. To contact the FPD traffic unit, callers should use this non-emergency phone number: (707) 428-7300.

The Impact of Fatal Collisions

Fatal accidents can be devastating for family members and friends of the decedent. The grieving process can be very difficult, especially after a sudden, unexpected event. In these situations, it’s common to feel overwhelming emotions or even a state of shock. While coping with grief can be hard, many are able to find comfort through seeking help and support from their friends and family.

However, crashes can also have a serious financial impact as well. Often, families are left with medical bills related to the incident or may suffer a loss of income or services that their loved one used to provide. While these issues can be troubling, many are able to obtain compensation to cover these losses by reaching out for help from a Fairfield wrongful death lawyer.

Hit-and-Runs and Compensation

With most vehicle accidents, the negligent driver can be held responsible for the damages that were caused by the collision. Often, police are able to locate hit-and-run drivers, but in some cases, the motorist is never found. In these cases, families often worry about how they’ll be able to file a wrongful death claim without a negligent party to hold accountable.

However, it is often possible to claim these payments through your own insurance policy through “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” However, it’s important to know that these coverages are optional in California and can vary widely depending on your specific insurance policy. Additionally, insurance companies may offer a low-ball payment in order to avoid paying the full amount of compensation your family deserves. Because of this, it is very important to have help from a wrongful death attorney before dealing with a wrongful death case.
