The big rig jackknifed during the collision with the SUV, leaving the semi-trailer leaning against a traffic light that began blinking red.
SUV Driver Hospitalized After Elk Grove Collision With Semi
The driver of the SUV suffered serious trauma in the accident and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Drivers were on their way to work at the time the collision occurred, which caused them to look for alternate routes. An investigation into the cause of the big rig crash is underway by local authorities.
Determining Liability in an Intersection Crash
When two vehicles collide at an intersection, a driver who ran the red light or failed to stop at the stop sign is typically liable for any resulting injuries. But when a semi-truck and a smaller vehicle collide, liability can be more complicated. The sheer size difference between a semi-truck and an SUV makes it difficult to determine fault in this type of crash. The semi-truck driver may claim they had the right of way, while the SUV driver may say they had a flashing yellow light when approaching the intersection.
Examining the Evidence in an Elk Grove Collision
To determine liability in this type of crash, investigators typically examine evidence such as skid marks, vehicle damage, witness accounts and others to determine who was at fault for the accident. In addition to determining who was at fault for the crash, investigators must also consider external factors that may have contributed to the collision. For instance, distracted driving or poor road conditions can play a role in an intersection crash between a semi-truck and an SUV.
Recovery of Compensation
With the right evidence, investigators can determine who is responsible for any injuries sustained in the Elk Grove collision. It’s important to seek experienced legal counsel if you’re involved in an intersection crash so that your rights are properly represented. An experienced lawyer can help you understand the best course of action for pursuing compensation for any injuries or damages sustained in the accident. Recoverable compensation often includes all of your medical expenses, wages that were lost as well as benefits and for your physical and emotional pain and suffering.
